I was reading #homodeus by Yuval Noah Harari . In one of the chapters, he explains pigs in the slaughter house are in a better place than pigs in wild. They don’t have to search for food, they are protected from predators, the humans will treat any diseases (though they are eventually lead to slaughter). However, it is still inhumane because evolution has given us some needs, emotionally and mentally they need to move around and so on which are not fulfilled.
Which makes me wonder, people who are stuck at an office in a desk job, yes they get paid well than poor humans, get good food and living conditions and the organisation takes care of any illness through insurance. But what about human emotional, mental and physiological needs? There are more people suffering through obesity and chronic back pains due to sitting unhealthily long. More and more people are getting mentally ill because their evolutionary need of connecting with family, connecting with the outside world is often in the back burner. Are we really leading a happy life? Or are we satisfying ourself with lies?
Are we any better than the roasted pig on the team’s quarterly dinner table?
