The space in between wakefulness and sleep is filled with possibilities and creativity. Here, time bends, overlaps, melds, and moves in ways that do not exist during waking hours. The first painting in the Dream Messenger series was conceived during a fevered dream. My Cherokee grandmother spoke to me of healing. Since, I have created several more Dream Messengers. They are healers, protectors, and keepers of traditions. My painting style for this series emerged from my fascination with pattern and the dot painting style of the indigenous Australian Aborigines who have a longer claim to their place than any other known population. Also, I chose to include the iconic hoop-and-web dream catcher. Dream catchers capture negative shadow-dreams that can cause distress, while at the same time allow positive uplifting dreams to pass through.
