My sister’s experience of pregnancy taught me a lot about how it changes and harms a mother’s body. The ability to become pregnant is natural for females but it is also really scary, and it can be a most intense experience for a human being.
In this work, pregnancy is embodied in a monster that tears open a mother’s body. The young girl watching is much more afraid than the mother, perhaps because the mother had prepared for the pain of childbearing. I think that preparation for pain is one of the greatest qualities a mother can have.
