DESCRIPTION: Dream Message from the Guardian Angel: I met her during a fitful dream, and she spoke to me of faith and hope. For many Indigenous people, the past is understood to be part of a cyclical and circular order known by some as the “everywhen”. This concept of time relies on active encounters with both the ancestral and natural worlds. One such encounter can take place in the Dreamtime. Dreaming connects the spiritual world of the past with the present and the future. For me, the time just before drifting off to sleep, is one of my most creative. Some call it the Alpha State. Here, we become more calm, peaceful, and anchored. In this state we are lucid and have a diffused awareness of both the real and the imagined. It is also here that we can solve problems and receive insight from unexpected sources.
My painting style for this series emerged from my kinship with, and shared belief in, the power of dreaming that is manifested in the Indigenous Aboriginal dot paintings. For, it is in the dreamtime, that I too can feel the everywhen connections. Here, time bends, overlaps, melds, and moves in ways that do not exist during waking hours. It is a time when I can be at one with those who have come before me. So, won’t you dream with me?
