I chose Unseen Courage as my submission to the Moxie Girl gallery, not because it is what I think is the best example of my work, but because of the impact it had on my parents when they saw it. It especially resonated deeply with my mother, whose own mother is a breast cancer survivor. My mom told me about how during the process of my grandmotherās cancer treatments, her mother frequently wore head wraps and covered up to protect her skin that was sensitive due to the radiation and chemo treatments. She also talked about how my grandmother had appeared faded and diminished and yet she still managed to smile through all the pain and hardship of her treatment. In my momās eyes this was the definition of moxie, and I agree. I also want to add that I see this figure as not just a girl, but as a person, because I feel it represents many different struggles and the will to overcome for many different people.
