- Representation of the first confirmed transaction on the blockchain. The origin of all blocks
The Genesis block, also known as block #0, contains the first 50 Bitcoins and was launched on January 3, 2009, after taking 6 days to be mined. To compare, currently mining such a block would only take a few minutes.
The first Bitcoin transaction took place on January 12, 2009. On that day, Satoshi sent 10 Bitcoins to Hal Finney, a programmer who became known precisely for being the first user of the virtual currency in the world.
