The Vanikoy Mosque is a small gem nested on the shoreline by Vanikoy on the Anatolian side of Bosphorus. During the day of November 15, 2020, there was a fire that burned down a part of the historical site. It was a very sad day and from a distance I was deeply moved to see it burn. I took some photos and videos of that incident with the intention to mark the moment almost in a news reporting style. When I sat down to edit it, what came out was more of a personal lamentation. Here is that video edited to reflect the feeling and with an excerpt from a little piece titled Stranded composed a day later by myself. Smoke fills the screen, wind blares, fire is far away, distinguished by the edit, yet the feeling the soot the hurt is so heavy.. Watch for a seagull though - that makes some difference.
