Created in March 2015, Object of Desire depicts a dark cyberpunk night scene, with many familiar tropes – the Offworld Relocation Services building, RESTART, the flying cars, the high-rise buildings covered in neon lights. But the object of desire is none of those things. It's a classic wheeled, stuck to the ground sports car. And just as cyberpunk itself has become nostalgic in its own horrifying dystopian way, the piece acknowledges the power and draw of that nostalgia.
Object of Desire was a defining piece of the Genuine Human Art history, as the cyberpunk vibe and world and the creation/animation methods were born. It was a period of exploration, a short sharp explosion of creativity and inspiration. A moment in time, inspiring all later Genuine Human work but never to be repeated.
Along with several GIFs created in the same period, Object of Desire brought GUNSHIP together with Genuine Human Art and the work was integrated into the animated music video for GUNSHIP's synthwave track Revel In Your Time. That video went on to win Best Video at the 2016 Unsigned Music Awards, cementing Object of Desire as a little piece of music history.
