The trench-dwelling extremophile creature was a colony organism, resembling a bloom of jellyfish swarming some long sunk deposit of bloodstained European loot from the New World. It was an unforgiving siren for those afflicted by greed, ever ready to punish encroachment on its domain with the deadliness of a Man-of-War.
