Meteor Shower is a cosmic elaboration of my 2022 Boxing oil series. The original seed for this composition was an abstraction of "The Clinch", a maneuver in boxing where a fighter will try to lock the other's arms up as a defensive maneuver against a more aggressive opponent. What carried forward with this painting was indeed a form of embrace, but I found myself infusing a more tender tone, and being reminded of "The Pieta", or even feeling reminded of times where my love had held me in my weakest, and most vulnerable states. To be cradled by the Universe, in a state of exhaustion, a state of vulnerability where you show your neck to the cosmic Lion. But instead of slashing it open, she takes your chin on her nose and points it further up to the sky. And as your head rolls onto the back of your neck, that cool gust swirls over the valley of your body with every hair pointing straight up to watch the Galaxy hurl it's flaming ribbons across the reflections in your shining eyes, as glimmering stars burn and die a million lightyears apart in a symphony of galactic splendor.
