This composite photo edit was created by collaging 3 โHighriseโ images together with a distortion of scale to create an art deco-styled object towering over the Detroit skyline. After photo compositing, minor details are refined with digital painting.
Storytelling through imagery is an interesting medium because it leaves much up to the viewer's imagination. To me, the strongest photos evoke thoughts of the actions that led up to and the actions that follow the moment in time depicted in an image. The story that developed as I crafted this image is as follows.
The aliens have been watching for quite some time. Since discovering these creatures on Earth, they have been captivated by their creativity. The culture on their home planet is quite stale, rooted only in an objective understanding of their reality, and devoid of creative thought. Human design influence began penetrating many facets of their built reality. Finally, an opportunity arose to visit their muse, and the aliens crafted gilded spaceships inspired by Art Deco skyscrapers they saw on Earth in hopes their arrival would be met with familiarity and admiration. 100 years passed as the fleet of ships traveled to this distant solar system. Upon their arrival, they were shocked to see sleek glass towers replacing many of the gilded structures they had admired and were mildly embarrassed by their outdated sense of style and misunderstanding of scale.
