Fissure Eruptions:
24 fissures eventually opened.
Lava fountains reached 300 feet (90 m) in height.
The most active and destructive was Fissure 8, which produced a massive lava channel that flowed to the ocean. Kapoho Bay was completely filled with lava, creating new land.
