This piece is the final part of a selection of works depicting the loss of the human self as we become increasingly digitised - 'defleshed: mode'.
Inspired by two years of lockdown induced isolation from colleagues the artist began to feel as an entirely separate entity to their real life form. During a short period of inactivity due to injury, the artist was increasingly cut off from those colleagues which only served to exacerbate the feeling of being merely a number on the end of an email or direct message. The humanity was disappearing.
This particular piece explores loss of the human self as we live our lives increasingly digitised through social media, chasing that dopamine & craving likes, leading to internalisation. This has lead to a huge increase in mental health issues among many young people as they attempt to navigate an increasingly difficult world that is measured by likes and popularity. I have depicted a young woman in the process of coming apart, arriving time and again expecting her time in the spotlight.
All hand made in ZBrush, rendered in Cinema 4D with extensive paint over in Photoshop before completion in After Effects.
