Millions of years ago, the Andes were formed by the collision of two tectonic plates. Since then, rain and wind are eroding the mountain chain, and particles travel through air and rivers. Wind patterns gather sand to create large desertic dune areas. Eventually, the sand will sediment, compact and may, in a far future, become a mountain again.
This projection symbolizes this infinite cycle, on the geologic time scale.
A series based on projection in the Peruvian desert.
After a few days of scouting, I found a hidden patch of sand dunes between mountains, 2 hours North of Lima. After a few hours hiking across the dunes, I used a small laser to make anamorphic projections on the sand.
