The detail is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of classical illustration most of the strokes will go over a typical punter's head. There's also rust's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from picasso and michaelangelo, for instance. The fans understand this stuff, they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of this artwork, to realize that they're not just beautiful, they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence, people who fade rust truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the nuance embedded in rust's pièce de résistance "untitled moonbird" raffle piece, which itself is a cryptic reference to Kevin Rose's non-fungible token collection "Moonbirds".
