This was the historic point of disembarkation for visits by seafaring dignitaries. The Royal Yacht Britannia has docked here on a number of occasions.
Queen Elizabeth II used it on her visit during her tour in 1975. It was finally dismantled in 2007, as part of the central land reclamation project amidst huge public protests. The site is now an unremarkable piece of public land with very little evidence of its former significance.
