The “Second Skin” project is a pioneering initiative, developing a model of an advanced spacesuit for Mars colonists that intertwines wearer’s emotions, environmental stimuli, and the goals of a human-centric design. The ambition is to construct a spacesuit that underlines the needs of humans living in the Martian environment, their physiological reactions, and their emotional responses. In line with the vision of our Mars Discovery Project, the objective is to use the outcomes of the “Second Skin” project as a part of a large-scale exploration of human adaptability in extraterrestrial environments in the future, and to be a key part of the discourse on the development of adaptive and symbiotic spacesuit technologies.
