Being a Merchant in the Renaissance Period, was a necessary activity. But, trading had fallen into the hands of undisciplined, uncouth people, carrying on without moderation. This poorly practiced profession as a Merchant by 1500 had the courts laid the law to curtail bad habits. This period saw wealth a broader potential as a societal goal, thus a Merchant could achieve good standing by excellence in trading. A book of business ethics codes was published, for a trader, to use to make sure Merchants treat people fairly, be generous, extend a hand to less rich. Merchants shouldn't be involved in politics, or the justice system. The shrewdness of a Merchant must be done in moderation.
Such a business type must not demean others, as well as be careful to not be cheated, & to disassociate themselves where deceit and falsity lurk.
