Originality is a myth.
All ideas are borrowed and repurposed. What constitutes an original artwork when using AI and digital mediums?
As AI artists face criticism for using a system trained on other artists work, this artwork puts forward the argument that nothing born in isolation. All art is a repetition of what has come before. There is no such thing as originality.
This NFT is based on an oil painting, created in part by AI. The painting is the dominantly repeated image, the variations are made using further AI programmes. The viewer's brain will try to focus on the most repeated image, that of the painting, believing it to be the "original". But it is just a variation of an output, no more original than the variations created from it.
This NFT will be auctioned along with the original oil painting as seen in the weblink below. It the decision of the collector to decide if the painting is subject to future sales of this NFT.
