The Fool in The Major Arcana story is the beginning of the tale, the first steps on an individual’s path to spiritual and self-actualization. In a reading, it tends to point to the beginning of a new journey where you are free of the binds of what may have once held you back.
The Major Arcana is cyclical, containing 22 cards, with 0 beginning as The Fool and 21 concluding The Major Arcana with The World, before the cycle begins anew. The experience is not unlike that which is laid out in The Monomyth, otherwise known as The Hero’s Journey, a term first coined by Joseph Campbell in his book, Hero with a Thousand Faces.
Tarot, The Monomyth - these are clues left in time, and tools given to us by those in history to navigate life as spiritual beings having a human experience. Tools for divination, tools for practical insight and action. Tools to guide us in the darkest of nights, to the brightest of dawns. The first step is to pick up the tools.
Have courage, dear soul, for The Fool does. You will need it on the journey ahead.
0 The Fool: Penelope
Two souls, trapped by fate, long for something more. Their twisted fates will become entwined – in The Underworld.
Life in Ancient Agapanthus is a waking nightmare for the young mortal Penelope. All the men are younger than six, or older than sixty, as all the fighting ones have gone off to war. She longs for a love that will rival that of The Gods yet feels she cannot find it here. Lord Death, King of The Underworld and Protector of The Realm of The Dead, finds his job dreadfully dull. When chance brings Penelope to a clearing where Death’s eye reaches, he is enthralled and resolves to make her his Queen.

This is the first collectible card in the Secrets Tarot Deck, created from the original India ink illustration on Bristol Vellum, presented as a gift airdrop to The Belladonna Collection 1/1 holders, and the Secrets Utility Token holders. The deck is tied to the Secrets comic book series, an original story centering around original characters created based on The Major Arcana from Tarot, with inspiration taken from mythologies that have been impactful to me as a writer since I began writing seriously at age 13.
