Namoro - Portuguese - noun [masculine]/na’moɾʊ: Courtship
Namoro follows the unfolding history of the Cinta Larga and Paiter Surui tribes of the Brazilian Amazon. For generations the tribes were locked in a power struggle over access to their shared sacrament, Chicha. With vengeance came the potential of mutual destruction and perpetual grief transformed warriors into consorts.
Namoro visualizes the sorcerer of the Cinta Larga as a mighty serpent, a symbol of wisdom and power. The Ubaraja (warrior) of the Paiter Surui becomes the Royal hawk, indomitable, courageous and free. Thrilling shapeshifts become a fearsome dance in the sky, revealing their ancient bond and their impending union. This is not a fight, but a ritual of love and power between two majestic peoples.
The animation is a work of art by Eloh and Jeremy Torman.
With music created by Jigsaw (M. Voiles) featuring the "Song of the Grandfather" a native Paiter Surui song.
