I arrive at this place before the dusk. The golden light of the Sun liting the rock formation begins to turn reddish, and a few minutes later the night comes. Now I can hear the sound of nocturnal animals. Far away, a bird that intrigues me sings, and its song reminds me of a wolf's howl.
A light summer breeze blowing into my face, the moon shining in the sky lit everything with a bluish tone. I can walk on the top of the rock formation like on daytime, lit only by the moonlight.
Beyond the image, these feelings always come to me. The night sounds, small animals chirping, a car somewhere far away, dogs howling, owls singing from time to time, and some mysterious noises. The smell of the night, wet earth and some flowers with a strong scent. The wind blowing in my face. The feeling of an endless peace, and the infinity of stars in the sky reminding me how small we are. All of this are an essential part of my work, and you will see these sensations coming back over and over again.
The earth spins and time passes while i keep thinking about it. Time is just one more piece of this mystery that is our life.
This piece is part of a collection "Thirty-six views" that I have been working on for over a 10 years, inspired by the work Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.
I spend all these years photographing this same rock formation in 36 different times of the day, weather conditions and locations.
