About the image: Designed after the Great Chicago Fire of the late 19th century, the Rookery Building in Chicago is one of the most famous architectural gems in the city. Perhaps the most popular attraction inside the building is the oriel staircase by architect John Root, cascading down 10 floors as it mesmerizes and overwhelms at once with its repeating patterns. As a photographer looking for her unique style and vision, I spent months interacting with Chicago’s architecture, having a conversation about lines, shapes, and geometric perspectives, drawn to the everyday structures that tell the story of this Great City, one building at a time. Getting lost in the process, I shot countless angles of this oriel staircase until I found the one that best represented the infinite brilliance of Root’s design.
