Two-Way Mirror explores the parallels between our public facing personas and our inner demons after living through a life altering event.
The true story behind this piece: During a hostage situation involving a young boy, a swat officer attempted a breach & clear, only to then see the boy’s father laying on top of the small child, firing off two rounds into his son’s chest. After the officer shot and killed the suspect, he prayed that the young boy would move, cry, or give some indication of life, but he was gone. It was on that day that the officer was taken to the edge of the abyss, where all hope and innocence died. Though he would tell his wife, coworkers and friends he was fine, he knew he was broken. Death was constantly on his mind and the impermanence of life consumed him. His old reality was now forever distorted, changed, and unrecognizable. He never returned to his former self, but he did learn to accept the events of his trauma and to make peace with them.
