The Grand Canyon has separated this landscape for the entirety of human existence. Travelers wishing to cross the Colorado River had to travel hundreds of miles out of their way. The canyons of the Colorado Plateau define this landscape, and none more so than the Grand Canyon. No picture can do this justice.
Here a brief rain shower had passed. The light was fading as the sun was quickly retreating below the horizon. A layer of haze, the rain evaporating off the hot rocks of the canyon, begin to obscure in an ethereal haze the lime and sandstones that make up the layer cake canyon walls.
