The word Dagaz means day, but because there are 24 hours in a day, some part of each day take place during the night-time. The rune therefore represents two equal periods of light and darkness which intersect at dawn and at dusk. The midpoint of the butterfly-shaped rune symbolizes the bridge, the link that connects the physical, material realm to the spirit world. The D-rune symbolizes the power of understanding the true nature of the universe, where opposite qualities β light and dark, material and spiritual, masculine and feminine β make up a single whole.
