A new symbol of the current wave of sexual rights movements, sex toys have played a key role, both as tools for self-love and affirmation, and as weapons in the ongoing fight against heteronormativity and gender inequality.
With the progressive fall of yet another taboo, toys are now on the rise and finally finding their own space in our personal lives and in society at large.
Though sexual toys have been used since ancient times - either flying solo or with a partner - these objects have also been often frowned upon, censored, or even used in marital subjugation or as pseudo-scientific medical tools, particularly at the expense of women and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Now, they’re finally coming back into the public sphere and gaining wider acceptance, both as novel items in and of themselves, and as figurative weapons in the wider struggle for sexual liberation and equality.
